Mastering the fundamental controls for Pan, Zoom, and Select is the key to fast and efficient navigation within the Drawing Editor.
Pan Tool: Allows you to move around the drawing
Select the Pan Tool (Hand button) from the Control Menu. Click and drag to move the drawing around the canvas
Hold down the spacebar or the middle mouse button (scroll wheel) to temporarily activate the Pan tool, regardless of which other tool is currently selected. This is the most efficient way to pan
Shortcut: Press Q on your keyboard to activate the Pan Tool
Zoom: allows you to get a closer look at details or a wider view of the drawing
Mouse Scroll Wheel: This is the easiest and most common way to zoom. Scroll up to zoom in, and scroll down to zoom out
The zoom will be centered on your mouse cursor’s position
Select Tool: Allows you to interact with items you’ve already placed on the drawing
Click the Select Tool (Arrow button) on the Control Menu, then select a takeoff
Once selected, you can:
– Move it: Click and drag the selected takeoff to a new location
– Delete it: Press the Delete key on your keyboard
– Edit it: Adjust its points, size/shape, or properties. There will be a toolbar at the bottom of the Drawing Editor that displays all the editing options
– View its details: The Quantities panel will highlight the selected item and show its measurements
Mastering these basic navigation controls, especially the mouse and keyboard shortcuts, will dramatically speed up your workflow.
Pro Tip: Rely on the mouse scroll wheel for zooming and the middle-mouse-button/spacebar shortcut for panning. This allows you to navigate without ever having to switch away from your active takeoff tool.
