Annotating and Marking up Drawings

Adding annotations and markups to your drawings is essential for communication, clarification, and personal notes. Togal.AI provides a suite of tools for this purpose.

These tools can be found on the Control Menu on the Drawing Editor , separate from the takeoff tools.

Common Annotation Tools

Freehand Pen:

  • Allows you to draw freehand lines directly on the drawing

  • Useful for circling areas, pointing to specific items, or making quick sketches

  • You can change the color and line thickness after selecting the tool

Shape Markups:

  • Can create multiple shapes including rectangles, circles, or polygons

  • Shapes use a semi-transparent color

  • Perfect for highlighting text or specific sections of the drawing without obscuring the details underneath

Cloud Tool or Callout Tool:

  • Draws a “cloud” shape with scalloped edges around an area

  • This is a standard industry practice to indicate a revision, a change, or an area that requires attention (like an RFI)

  • Click point by point to create the cloud shape and double-click to finish

Text Box:

  • Allows you to type and place text notes anywhere on the drawing

  • Click the text tool icon, then click on the drawing where you want to place the note. A text box will appear for you to type in

  • You can typically resize the box and change the text color and size

Line/Arrow Tool:

  • Draws a straight line with or without an arrowhead at the end

  • Ideal for pointing from a note to a specific element on the drawing

These annotations are saved with the drawing and are visible to any team members who have access to the project.

They can also be included when you export the drawing to a PDF.
