Repeating groups allow you to perform a takeoff once on a “master unit” including the areas, linear footages, finishes, and automatically apply it to hundreds of identical spaces instantly.
With the introduction of repeated groups, your workflow for typical units becomes faster and more reliable.
Ideal for estimators working on projects like hotels, hospitals and apartments that need repeating layouts.

Before Creating a Repeating Group
Open a drawing (e.g., an enlarged plan of a typical repeating unit)
Perform a detailed takeoff on the enlarged plan
Tip: Make sure your initial takeoff is on the most detailed enlarged plan to ensure accuracy.
Creating a Repeating Group
Click + on the right Quantities Panel to create classification
Click on Create Repeating group (still in BETA)
Give it a descriptive name like "Studio Queen Unit", change color and shape of the repeating group, and control the view with markers only or show the original takeoff. Optionally, you can add ID, select folder, and add an additional note
Click Save to save your new group and proceed
Tip: Be specific in naming your groups so it can be differentiated from typical layouts in that project.Apply Repeating Groups
Go back to canvas, select all the takeoff items you measured for the typical unit
Right-click and choose the Assign Repeating Group, then select the group you just created
The created repeating group will show up on the Quantities Panel and a tag will show up on the top left corner
Navigate to a main floor plan where these units appear
Select the new Repeating Group from the Quantities Panel on the right. The cursor will now show a preview of the entire takeoff group
Click on each location where the typical unit exists. Each click places an instance of the repeating group. Every takeoff item within the repeating group automatically multiplies the quantities
To Update Repeating Groups
1.Go to the original repeating group
2.Make the necessary adjustment
3.Right click and assign repeating groups
4.The adjustments will automatically show on the placed repeating group takeoffs
Tip: Use Togal’s Text Search to type, search and locate as many identical units with the same count name in the drawing.
With Text Search, you can convert all the search results into the count of Repeating Groups, allowing you to perform a unit takeoff on the remaining identical units.
Note: You can only edit (add, delete, modify) take-off inside the ‘master unit’ (the one with a tag on the top left corner), and repeating instances will reflect all the changes.
