Editing Classifications

As your project evolves, you may need to update a classification (name, appearance, outputs, units, dimensions). These actions are managed from the Quantities Panel.

To Edit a Classification:

Editing a classification updates the properties of that classification, and any changes you make will retroactively apply to all takeoffs already created with that classification.

  1. Locate the classification
In the Quantities Panel, find the classification you want to update.

  2. Open the Edit Classification Window
Select the classification and right click, select “Edit” to open its Edit Classification window, where you can modify its properties.

  3. Make Your Changes

The same dialog box you used to create the classification will appear. You can now change:

    • Name: make it more specific and consistent

    • Appearance: color, pattern for areas, symbol for counts, line style

    • Output Quantities and units: define different output quantities and unit of measurement that the classification reports

    • Classification Dimensions: default height/width/length inputs used in calculations

    • Classification Folders: organize by trade, phase, or CSI division

    • Note: You cannot change the core Takeoff Type - Area, Linear, or Count.

  4. Save the Changes

After editing, confirm the update by clicking “Save”. All existing takeoffs using this classification will instantly update to reflect the new properties (e.g., they will all change color). You can now review the appearance changes on canvas and the updated totals on the Quantities Panel.
