While takeoffs are grouped by their Classification, each individual takeoff instance can be given a unique name for better identification. For example, within the “Carpet Tile” classification, you might have individual area takeoffs named “Room 101,” “Room 102,” and “Corridor.”
This is especially useful for creating detailed reports and for easily finding a specific takeoff in the Quantities Panel.
Renaming from the Quantities Panel
This is the most direct method.
Locate the Takeoff: In the Quantities Panel, expand the classification to see the list of individual takeoff instances. By default, they might have generic names like “Area 1,” “Area 2,” etc.
Select and Rename:
Right-click on the specific takeoff instance you want to rename. Select “Edit Item” from the context menu.
Enter the New Name: An Edit Item window will appear. Type the new, descriptive name (e.g., “RM 102”) in Item Name.
Save: Click Save on top right of the window to save the properties.
Now you see the name of the instance is changed.
Giving specific names to your takeoffs adds a crucial layer of detail that makes your final exported data much more organized and understandable.
