The Cut/Subtract toolis used to remove a portion of an existing area classification (think of it as creating a “hole” or deduction). In addition, you can use the same workflow to fill that cut-out area with another classification.
How to Use the Cut/Subtract Tool
Select the polygon to edit
Select the area you want to cut/subtract from.Activate the Cut/Subtract tool
Click the Cut/Subtract tool on the left Control Menu, or press the shortcut key C.Outline the deduction area
Trace the shape you want to remove, then double-click to finish.Confirm the deduction
The outlined portion becomes a cut/subtract area, and the area is automatically deducted from the original area.(Optional) Fill the cut area with another classification
The cut-out area can be assigned to a different area classification (for example, cutting out a bathroom area from “Tile” and filling it as “Carpet”). To do this:Select the cut area, then right-click and choose one option:
Assign and fill: choose an existing area classification to fill the cut area.
Create and fill: create a new area classification and fill the cut area with it.
Tips
Copy/paste a cut area: You can copy & paste the cut area within the same classification by selecting the cut area, hitting Ctrl + C on your keyboard to copy and then hitting Ctrl+V to paste.
Delete a cut/subtract area: You can delete a Cut/Subtract area by selecting the area and hitting the Delete key.
Common Use Cases
Remove openings/voids from a gross area.
Split one finish area into multiple finish classifications (e.g., carpet vs tile).
Correct missed scope without redrawing the full polygon.
