The Arc Line Tool

The Arc Line tool is a specialized linear takeoff feature that allows you to accurately measure curved lines, such as curved walls, pathways, or architectural features. Instead of trying to approximate a curve with many small, straight line segments, the Arc Line tool lets you define a true arc.

How to Use the Arc Line Tool: Three-Point Arc Method

1. Begin drawing with a linear classification. Select Arc at the bottom toolbar.

2. Define the Start Point: Click on the drawing where the curve begins.

3. Define the End Point: Click on the drawing where the curve ends. You will now see a straight line between these two points.

4. Define the Arc’s Radius/Curve: Move your mouse. You will see the straight line bend into an arc that follows your cursor. Click a third time when the arc on your screen perfectly matches the curve on the drawing.

5. Completion: The arc segment is now created. The system accurately calculates its length. You can continue drawing more line or arc segments, or press Enter to finish the takeoff.

Why Use the Arc Line Tool?

Accuracy: It provides a mathematically precise measurement of the arc’s length, which is more accurate than approximating with straight lines.

Efficiency: It’s much faster to create a smooth curve with a single arc than by clicking dozens of times to create small segments.

Cleanliness: The resulting takeoff is a single, smooth curved line, which looks much cleaner on the drawing than a jagged approximation.
