The Merge Lines Tool automatically connects the endpoints of the selected line segments, joining them into one continuous line. This is useful when a linear takeoff was drawn in pieces, or when you want a single, consolidated line item instead of multiple segments. This is the linear equivalent of merging polygons.
Requirement: You can only merge lines that belong to the same classification.
How to Use the Merge Lines Tool
1. Select the Lines to Merge:
Using the Select Tool (arrow), hold down the Shift key and click on each of the linear takeoff segments you want to combine.
These segments should typically be connected end-to-end or be part of the same logical path (e.g., the perimeter of a room).
2. Activate the Merge Lines Tool:
Select the Merge Lines function from the toolbar at the bottom center of the Drawing Editor.
3. Result:
The separate line segments will be joined together into a single, continuous polyline.
In your Quantities Panel, what was previously multiple line items will now be consolidated into one single item with a total combined length.
When to Use the Merge Lines Tool
Fix interrupted takeoffs: If you ended a line early, draw the missing portion as a new line and merge them.
Consolidate segments: Combine multiple wall segments into one clean “total length” takeoff.
Simplify reporting: Reduce clutter in the Quantities Panel by keeping fewer, cleaner line items.
