What's new in Togal version 3.0
We're excited to announce Togal 3.0, which brings improved performance, new features, and many user experience improvements to existing features.
Breakdown UI now integrated with the Quantities Panel
The Breakdown feature is now accessible directly from the Quantities Panel. You can now activate a breakdown along with a classification and draw a takeoff assigned to that breakdown. As before, you can also assign an existing takeoff classification to a breakdown.
Drawing Comparison also integrated with the Quantities Panel
Drawing Comparison mode now functions as an active layer directly in your Quantities Panel, allowing for more dynamic comparisons.- Interactive overlay: The overlay lives directly on your takeoff, allowing simultaneous interaction with quantities and overlay.
- View filtering: Filter your view to see takeoffs on different drawing types (e.g., roof plan vs. original).
- Import flexibility: Import drawings from other sets or within the same set.
- Alignment tools: Use the align function to realign comparisons as needed.
- Add to set: Ability to add drawings to a set directly from compare mode.
Enhanced Markup Tools
Markup Tools improvements include:
- Relocated controls: Markup layering function now lives in the quantity panel (no longer in settings menu).
- Easy layer management: Click to turn layers on and off easily.
- Click and drag selection: Select markup functions with click and drag.
- Last-used function: System stores and remembers your last markup setup (colors, settings).
- Image import: New ability to import and upload images:
– Upload any image you need in Togal;
– Images stay stored on the project.
New Settings
The settings menu has been restructured into three distinct categories for better organization.
- Background Image Control;
- Options (including legend toggle);
- Visual Properties.
Draw connected lines (new setting)
This new setting lets you enable connected lines for linear classifications, creating one continuous line instead of individual segments - perfect for when you want linear classifications to flow as a single continuous polygon.
Enhanced 3D visualization (new setting)
The setting for opaque rendering lets you use grayscale rendering in the 3D view.
Interactive 3D takeoff
Perform your takeoff directly in 3D mode:
Advanced drawing tools
Snapping functionality has been completely overhauled with advanced controls for power users.
New snapping user-interface:
Relocated controls: Snapping functions now live at the bottom of your screen (no longer in settings menu).
Visual indicators: Clear on-screen feedback for all snapping operations.
Snap to angle: Configurable angle increments for consistent geometric drawings:
– Adjustable angles (22.5°, 45°, 90°, etc.);
– Temporary disable with Shift key.
Snap to distance: Move along lines at set distance increments. Configurable distances (1 foot, 5 feet, etc.).
Snap to points: Original point-to-point snapping.
Snap to alignment: Snap to center points or edges of polygons.
Snap to lines: Snap directly to linear or area edges.
Snap to line percentage: Move along lines in percentage increments (5%, 10%, 12.5%, 25% - configurable).
Snap to line distance: Move along lines in set distance increments.
Snap to close edge: Preview final polygon shape while drawing.
New Grid Tool
Our new grid tool lets you quickly and easily duplicate of grid patterns.
- Multi-select first: Click and drag to select minimum 2 shapes (any combination of area, linear, or count).
- Set up grid: Add columns and rows as needed.
- Set up spacing: Adjust spacing between duplicated polygons.
- Visual preview: See placement before applying.
- Apply: Hit Enter to apply all duplications at once.
Improved "Smart" Copy & Paste
Smart copy paste has been streamlined with updated keyboard shortcuts and enhanced preview functionality. New workflow:
- Copy: Still Ctrl+C to copy selected items.
- Smart paste: Use Ctrl+Shift+V (instead of Ctrl+V).
- Preview mode: See exactly where items will be placed before confirming.
- Memory function: System remembers distance increments for subsequent pastes.
- Repeat pasting: Continue using Ctrl+Shift+V with remembered settings.
UI/UX Improvements
Several UI/UX improvements have been made across the entire application:
- Moveable modals / overlays: All modals (overlays), such as Create/Edit Classifications, can be repositioned.
- Improved drag and drop in the Quantities Panel. Improved visual feedback during drag and drop operations for moving classifications and folders.
- More quantities in classifications: Create up to 8 quantities per classification.
- Improved multi-tab support: Right-click drawings in the left-side drawing navigator to open in new tabs.
Faster loading of drawings and Sets
- Improved caching system for Sets and drawings: Complete rewrite of data caching for faster performance.
- Improved switching between Sets: Switch between Sets without waiting for full loading completion.
- Progressive loading of Sets: The initial drawings are displayed faster, even for large Sets containing hundreds of pages. You can enter any loaded drawings while the remainder load progressively. Resume exactly where you left off when returning to a Set instead of refetching everything.
- Faster first load of drawings: Significantly reduced initial loading times for large datasets.
- Faster drawing (page) navigation: Drawings / pages appear even faster when switching pages, with takeoff objects and features loading progressively.
Smoother canvas performance for large takeoffs
The canvas is where you interact with drawings (pages) and add the layers (areas, linear, counts) that comprise your takeoff:
- Enhanced capacity: The takeoff canvas was refactored to handle extremely large datasets while maintaining consistent performance.
- Smoother interaction: Select, move, and edit features on the takeoff canvas without performance degradation even if there are very large numbers of objects.
- Consistent responsiveness: Operations on the canvas maintain steady performance regardless of project complexity.
